School Supplies

We are fortunate at our school to receive most of our school supplies from a grant.  However, there are a few items your student needs for school that aren't covered by the grant.  Please see our class list below:

1.  1/2 inch 3 ring white binder with clear pockets on the outside.  We use this supply as a parent/teacher communication folder.   Your student will bring homework home in the inside front pocket and papers ready to go home are in the inside back pocket.

This folder will also house your student's weekly agenda, where you can see his/her daily assignments.  Additionally, it will have our class calendar and lunch menus.  Following the calendars, your student will have homework helpers.

2.  2 composition notebooks--Your student may select any color.  We use the composition notebooks for our writing.  Students are taught not to tear pages out of the composition books, so they may go back and use some of the discarded ideas at a later time.

3.  2 boxes of Kleenux tissues--for your students during the year if they get the sniffles.

4.  2 containers of hand sanitizer.  We use this all the time!  Generally after they blow their nose, eat breakfast, or anytime their hands get a little dirty.  I work very hard to keep your student healthy!  If we have immediate access to soap and water, we use that first.

5.  2 containers of bleach wipes.  We use the bleach wipes to sanitize surfaces in the classroom.  If someone is sent home sick, I'll sanitize their work area and writing utensils.

6.  Finally, your student will need to bring a back pack, like the picture above.  This is up to you and your student on the decoration.  Please make sure the backpack has sturdy straps and is NOT a string backpack (those don't hold up over the course of the school year).

If you have any questions regarding the supplies above, please call or e-mail me.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Cowan

Back to School

Dear Parents and Families,

I am excited to be your child’s third grade teacher.  I’m sending you this letter so you can know a little more about me.  I will be asking your student to write me a letter about them (and you).

This is my second year teaching third grade.  I have worked in various vocations for quite some time, before I returned to college.  So, I am a late in life college graduate with a lot of real world experience.  I graduated from OSU in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences.  I am currently student in the Master’s Education Administration program at OU-Tulsa.

I have been on the other side of the teacher’s desk as a working parent because my daughter is 13 years old.  I am thankful to my husband and daughter who helped me live my dream to be a classroom teacher!  I can’t tell you how many nights, they have helped me cut out or make flash cards for my students.

I am passionate about education.  I believe education can transform lives, it certainly has changed mine!  I believe your student has a right to learn and achieve in school.  I will help them set goals and exceed them!
